The New Kind of Theft

There have been reports that copper wire is being stolen from commercial electrical yards. The plastic coating is scrapped, and the copper is sold off. There are also stories of used urns being harvested, and sold on the open market.

This is petty theft, and is caused by the rising prices of precious metals. This trend does not seem to have any great organization to it. Many incidents are just to make a few dollars to feed a drug habit.

How do you stop this new kind of theft?

When materials are left in open air, often behind fences, there is great potential for theft. The security industry has had the anecdote for this kind of theft for years: Security Beams.
