China is planning to boost their use of Security Cameras.

On Monday an article came out about security cameras in China. China’s police say they have installed 2.75 million surveillance cameras since 2003 and plan to expand the system into the countryside, which is home to about 800 million of the country’s 1.3 billion people.

The cameras are the most visible components of police surveillance, mainly in urban areas, according to a news release posted Monday on the Chinese Public Security Ministry’s Web site.

These camera security systems have proved controversial in other countries, like Britain, which reportedly has 4.2 million surveillance cameras installed – which is about one per 14 people. The ratio of cameras to people stands at only one to 472,000. The camera-to-person ratio is believed to be much higher in China’s cities, with the capital Beijing having 265,000 cameras.

No dialog or privacy rights has arisen in China, where tight communist political control and broad and intrusive police powers have been the norm for half a century. However, China’s plans to combine surveillance cameras with face recognition software has raised concerns about how the equipment will be used.

The Associated Press reported “Thefts, burglaries and purse snatching have all more than doubled since the 1990s amid rising wealth inequalities and relaxed social controls, with about 4.75 million cases reported in 2007, the last year for which statistics were available. However, police say violent crime has declined in recent years with better enforcement of rules governing weapons and explosives.” The Chinese police believe that the expansion of camera security to the countryside should “put the safety of the broad masses of the people first and foremost.”

So many people have a monitored security system, and don’t know exactly what the monitoring entails. Well, here it is in summary. Security systems signal an alarm when tripped. This signal sends data which makes it’s way to a central station via one of three methods. The traditional method is through a land line, and many people still have land lines ONLY for their security system. The second method is through a cellular device, using cellular towers. This technology is not completely developed yet, so we only recommend using cellular as a back-up means of signaling in case phone lines are cut. And, the third method of security data transmission is over the internet.

Once the alarm signal is sent to the central station, they take predetermined actions based on a protocol made by the customer. For example, the protocol might be to call the business owner first, the VP second, and then call the police if they are both inaccessible. A common protocol for a home security system is to call the homeowners cellular and home, and to only take action when directed. This prevents false alarms, but can be dangerous if the homeowner is not always around their cellular.

The entire transaction is recorded by the central station, so in case there are any issues with the following of the protocol.

Any burglar alarm installation is not complete without the bare necessities. What are these necessities, though? The first, of course, is a control panel and at least one keypad. These are the brain of the system, taking in the programming from the technician, and acting intelligently based on information given by equipment. The Equipment is the second security system necessity. Security equipment such as door and window contacts, infrared motion detectors and glass break detectors alert the control panel that something fishy is happening. The third, and final, very necessary part of any alarm is a well-trained user. Without a person to arm and disarm the system, it is useless. I hear some of our customers here in San Diego tell me that they don’t use their system. This breaks my heart, because (1) they pay for it and (2) they are susceptible to a burglary which could be avoided (or at least minimized) by their security system. So, What Equipment Should Come Standard With Any Home Security System? A Control Panel, keypad, security equipment, and person that uses the system.

Irvine might be the “Safest large city in America” according to the FBI, but business security is another matter. Our security solutions offer many options to protect vital inventory, technology, and trade secrets. With our popular DMP RemoteLink software, you can look-up activity on your system anytime. Who was it that came into the office at 3:00 AM yesterday? RemoteLink can tell you by the code they used to disarm the system. Another great security system for Irvine businesses is door access control. A door access or intercom system can allow entry ONLY to trusted or verified people within your organization.

We call ourselves “Security Integrators” in some circles, especially in describing our services to Federal customers. But what does the term “Integration” mean?
Websters Dictionary “Integrate”: To form, coordinate, or blend into a larger unit.

This is a great description, but I feel I must explain further. A Security System that is truly integrated has two or more types of Electronic Security connected and intelligently interacting. An example is a Door Access Control System tied into an Alarm System panel. The trend among Security Manufacturers has been toward developing integrated products which can be used for many different functions, often at the same time.
The benefits of Security Integration are cost reduction and improved or customized functionality. Therefore, you can see why many Security Installation companies are calling themselves “Integrators,” because the term is synonymous with added-value and ingenuity.

I’m sorry it has come to this, but Customer Service has been in a downward spiral for 20 years. We live in a world where “Good Customer Service” means it only takes 10 minutes in an automated phone-tree to get a human on the phone. This often involves talking (out loud) to a robotic voice, while your co-workers laugh at you.
Well, I’ve come across a helpful website to get a human on the line as quick as possible from a large list of Giant conglomerate corporations. The website is www.GetHuman.com and it is a long, categorized list of companies, with phone numbers and directions on a fast way to get a human being on the phone.
At Progressive Technology Security Systems always have a Human answer the phone. If your issue is not resolved immediately, we either transfer you to an expert on the subject, or have them call you back (usually within 5 minutes). Our service is among the best in the industry, often times we will be at your location to help within one day or even same day. The last thing anyone wants is a blaring alarm, or a state-of-the-art Alarm System that cannot protect them. We understand this, and model our Service parctices around this.
